Needle Felted Pet Portraits

Picture
Works in Progress
Wool roving which has been washed and dyed is felted with a sharp barbed needle. The felting needle is special in that it entangles the wool and builds  a firm structure. Felting takes much patience and careful focus and I spend many hours layering the wool form so it is durable and long lasting. The technique lends itself to exquisite detailing and expression.
I use photos and my own drawings for reference.

To create a likeness of a dog , cat or other animal, is a fascinating and rewarding process.
Types of wool I use include merino, Romney, Corriedale, Mohair and Alpaca.

About the Artist

Picture
I am a classically trained artist with an Honour Degree in Fine Art . My miniature  animal  sculptures combine my love of art and animals . My inspiration comes from the beautiful world  of nature. My hand crafted animals are expressive and take on their own personalities like their real life models!
Each is unique and one of a kind. I use real animals and photos as references for many of my animals. I often create specific dog and cat breeds for clients on a custom made basis and I welcome  photos of their favourite pet!
